Thankfully no longer a Scene queen, it's onwards and upwards for my drag understudy Vanity von Glow as she has now officially been inaugurated into the House of Menergy!
That's right - Sister V shall be joining us upon our grand return from disco hibernation in Feb. :-)
The House of Menergy had an amazing birthday at The Fierce Ruling Divas Ball, and we thank our loyal crowd for making it a night to remember! We're currently recharging our batteries and will be taking a festive break over the next few months, staying over at the Countess Von Glow's ski resort in Vulgaria and visiting our sisters in neighboring Lesbania. Fear not though, we'll be back in full force soon when we relaunch in February with our new monthly residency at the Art School on the last Saturday of every month. :-) Until then, keep your eyes peeled for some other projects that we've got our fingers in. If you enjoyed the Fierce Ruling Divas Ball then you'd better get ready, 'cos there's soon gonna be a VOGUE BRAWL... x
Our in-house graphic designer Gregor Laird gets his work showcased on one of his favourite websites, including his inimitable work for Menergy! Go Gregor! x
Stuart McLean is better known by his alter-ego Frenchbloke, reknowned electronic disco producer, remixer of "Talking To The DJ (While He's Trying To Mix)" by Cnut, father of "Son" (or not) and who has this year been bringing out some fine music via Seed Records.
Knowing he was a fan of Hi-NRG, we contacted him recently to do us a guest mix. Frankly, we're blown away by the result. This is probably the best guest mix we have had yet, and fits Menergy so perfectly it's uncanny. It's a reminisence on a youth spent hanging out at Bennets in the mid 80s so he could hear good music - Hi-NRG, electro and early house (imagine going to Bennets now to HEAR GOOD MUSIC!!), Stuart has this to say about the mix:
"A snapshot of sorts, of an era where a young Frenchbloke went to clubs where men danced with men, ladies danced with ladies, people danced on their own or with each other to a curious electronic beat."
Richard X - You (better let me love you x 4) tonight - featuring Tiga Wood Allen - Airport 89 (club mix) Scotch - Man to Man Animotion - Obsession Atelier Folie - No Rhyme No Reason (dub version) Digital Emotion - Get Up, Action Antoni Maiovvi - Tokyo Ultra Funk Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax (from soft to hard) The Flirtations - Earthquake Nitzer Ebb - Murderous (instrumental) Evelyn Thomas - High Energy Fancy - Slice Me Nice (extended version) Trans X - Living on Video MG - Boogie Tonight Mike Mareen - Love Spy Maria Vidal - Bodyrock Giorgio Moroder - Utopia - Me Giorgio Gina X Performance - No G.D.M (dedicaed to Quentin Crisp) My Mine - Hypnotic Tango Patrick Cowley - Menergy (Extended) Hazel Dean - Searchin' (I gotta find a man) Elvin - You Set My Heart on Fire Man2Man meets Man Parrish - Male Stripper Divine - Shake It Up (Extended mix)
My forthcoming single "I Came" (ft Ms Mac D) is released next week, and before that ace music blog THE BEAT are giving away on download the icy-cool Italo remix by producer Brassica, aka one half of Gold Blood Mike Wright. Click here to get it...
Cos there's this kerrazy new dance style coming out of NY, see?
Seriously though, this was one of the first records I ever bought, I got the 7" when I was about 9 years old. Sadly it got left out in the sun and melted, but it's still an awesome track! This extended mix is by William Orbit and Mark Moore of S'Express, fact fans.
The final reportage on the Fierce Ruling Divas Ball is in, and this time it is more fashion focused than the previous coverage, coming as it does from Glasgow's two top style blogs, Les Garcons De Glasgow and Style Scanner. Both happen to be in black and white, giving them that extra classy touch. Thanks guys!
And saving the best til last, here are some of the photos of Saturday's ball by our resident snapper Michael James, aka Alephnaught. More pics available on the Facebook album.
