Videos of the year 2010

Well, there could be only one really, and of course it is the amazing "Invisible Light" by the Scissor Sisters. My guess is they've blown their entire video budget on this thing, but it was worth it:

But coming up the rear in a very close second is the fabulous "Alive" by Goldfrapp, which manages to combine elements of goth, aerobics, devil-worship and cheesy 80's disco. Basically it's Xanadu with vampires. With a queentastic Alison leading the action:

And if you like that, then check out the ladies of "Jazzercise", apparently a big inspiration for "Single Ladies":

DEN HAAN Universal Energy Free Download

Crosspost from Shallow Rave:

Our good friends at Radio Magnetic are giving away an MP3 by our other good friends in the band Den Haan. It's a vocoder-tastic tribute to 80's disco producer Patrick Cowley, and it is bloody awesome. Get it here.

Niallist comes second in Pierre Pascual remix competition

W00t! I came runner-up in the Pierre Pascual remix competition! :-)

"WINNER OF THE REMIX CONTEST !
MM Minimano ( Hong Kong )
2nd prize : Délicat mixx by The Niallist ( for the groove! )
3rd prize : Noisy pearls remix by KathCharles Martin Gonthier Béringer ( for the sensibility )
All 3 win COMPLETE DISCOGRAPHY of Pierre Pascual !
...Thanx to EVERYBODY for your participation ♥ ♥ ♥"

Pierre Pascual is a French artist I have been following for a while, he also goes by the name "Chose Chaton". He makes romantic electro with a distinct queer edge, and his track "Teenage Love" will bring a tear to your eye. I did a disco-style remix for this, taking cues from French electro and nu-disco.

If you would like to know anything else, please ask any questions, and I will respond as soon as I can. Thanks and Good Luck!!!!"

Menergy Takes A Festive Break

The House of Menergy had an amazing birthday at The Fierce Ruling Divas Ball, and we thank our loyal crowd for making it a night to remember! We're currently recharging our batteries and will be taking a festive break over the next few months, staying over at the Countess Von Glow's ski resort in Vulgaria and visiting our sisters in neighboring Lesbania. Fear not though, we'll be back in full force soon when we relaunch in February with our new monthly residency at the Art School on the last Saturday of every month. :-) Until then, keep your eyes peeled for some other projects that we've got our fingers in. If you enjoyed the Fierce Ruling Divas Ball then you'd better get ready, 'cos there's soon gonna be a VOGUE BRAWL...

Frenchbloke - Flashbacks Mix

Stuart McLean is better known by his alter-ego Frenchbloke, reknowned electronic disco producer, remixer of "Talking To The DJ (While He's Trying To Mix)" by Cnut, father of "Son" (or not) and who has this year been bringing out some fine music via Seed Records.

Knowing he was a fan of Hi-NRG, we contacted him recently to do us a guest mix. Frankly, we're blown away by the result. This is probably the best guest mix we have had yet, and fits Menergy so perfectly it's uncanny. It's a reminisence on a youth spent hanging out at Bennets in the mid 80s so he could hear good music - Hi-NRG, electro and early house (imagine going to Bennets now to HEAR GOOD MUSIC!!), Stuart has this to say about the mix:

"A snapshot of sorts, of an era where a young Frenchbloke went to clubs where men danced with men, ladies danced with ladies, people danced on their own or with each other to a curious electronic beat."

This mix is MAJE:

My forthcoming single "I Came" (ft Ms Mac D) is released next week, and before that ace music blog THE BEAT are giving away on download the icy-cool Italo remix by producer Brassica, aka one half of Gold Blood Mike Wright. Click here to get it...

Menergy Anthem: "Deep In Vogue (Extended Mix)" by Malcolm McLaren & The Bootzilla Orchestra

Cos there's this kerrazy new dance style coming out of NY, see?

Seriously though, this was one of the first records I ever bought, I got the 7" when I was about 9 years old. Sadly it got left out in the sun and melted, but it's still an awesome track! This extended mix is by William Orbit and Mark Moore of S'Express, fact fans.
