Countdown to MENERGY @ The Vic Bar Pt 10: Pyuupiru 2001-2008

On Friday 25th, the night before MENERGY's grand return, a fashion event will be held at the CCA in Glasgow as part of the fashion strand of the Glasgow Film Festival. The centrepiece of this event will be 'PYUUPIRU 2001-2008', a documentary about Pyuupiru, one of the brightest stars of the Japanese art scene, renowned for eye-popping handmade costumes and being a work of art in her own right.

Director Daishi Matsunaga is an old friend who has captured every moment of Pyuupiru’s rise to fame from first high-heeled strut in the coolest clubs in Japan to cult status. The trust of friendship is behind an extraordinary documentary that provides a fascinating insight into the private life of Pyuupiru. Born a boy, she decided that that her true gender was female. The emotional and physical upheavals of becoming herself, finding love and seeking acceptance are all revealed in a fascinating portrait of an artist as both creator and creation.

I will introducing the film, and afterwards there will be a catwalk show featuring the best up-and-coming local designers including Lilly Wiggler, House of Black, Obscure Couture, Judy Clarke, Nicola Beedie and my friend and collaborator Rebecca Torres, with music provided by MENERGY's friend TEAMY (Wrong Island)!
An afterparty will followed, hosted by MENERGY and punk legend and fashion designer supreme PAM HOGG, who is a personal source of inspiration for me! It's going to be an amazing event and the public know it as it has now SOLD OUT but it will be the perfect precursor to MENERGY!
